Stop Making These 6 Hair Care Mistakes!

"We're men, we don't need to take care of our hair!" said the guy with dandruff and a bowl cut.

At Charlie Dapper we're all about simplicity and we don't think that proper grooming should involve more than a handful of products or take more than just a few minutes. However, you can't just shampoo your hair each day and then throw some gel into it either.  Here are our 6 tips to take better care of your hair.

1. Watch the Heat

While all hair types respond differently to heat, it's always best to avoid too much heat on your hair.  Indirect hair dryer usage is okay, but otherwise you can easily damage your hair shaft.  If you regularly use a hair dryer to style your hair, take a day off every so often to give your hair a break.

2. Cut Back on the Alcohol

You can keep sipping your whiskey, I'm talking about the alcohol content in your hair products.  The big brands you'll see at your local pharmacy love it because it helps to improve their product shelf life, but it's really not kind to your hair.  The problem is that the alcohol in these products evaporates quickly and, when it does, it takes some of your hair's natural moisture with it leading to dry, lifeless locks.

We're a little biased, but Charlie Dapper's premium water based pomade is a styling product that will give you a great hold with a medium shine and won't dry out your hair or scalp.

3. Shampoo... Use it!

Shower daily (obviously), but only shampoo your hair every 2-3 days.  When you shampoo, the oil and build-up on your hair and scalp will be removed which prevents clogged hair follicles.  Don't overdo it though as you don't want a dry, itchy scalp either.

4. Stop Using Mass-Marketed Products

If your hair product is from your local pharmacy, grocery store or just the cheapest one you found on Amazon please do the following:

1. Grab your hair product
2. Locate the nearest garbage can
3. Put it where it belongs

Unfortunately, with hair products you truly do get what you pay for.  Mass-marketed products lack quality and their ingredients are poor which can cause damage to your hair over time.  Look for higher-quality products that make use of the best ingredients nature has to offer.

    5. Stop. Touching. It.

Top researchers have yet to figure out why men insist on touching their hair throughout the day.  Aside from the fact that you're risking messing up your hair style, also think about what could be on your hands.  Do you want that in your hair?  I didn't think so...  Set it and forget it.  If it's not holding, use a higher hold or cut your hair shorter as longer hair is harder to stand up.
